While the Betway Premiership title race begins to reach a definitive close, Marumo Gallants will engage in two largely important fixtures in the next couple of weeks, beginning with a tie against Polokwane City this weekend as they hope to avoid relegation this season.
Gallants currently find themselves sitting in 15th position, after collecting just 23 points from 28 games this season. As they face the prospect of finishing in the Relegation Play-off position, a run of five consecutive draws leaves the club one point from safety.
In addition to their woes, Gallants recorded a frustrating 1-1 draw alongside Richards Bay during Matchday 29, as they sit one point behind 14th placed Orbit College and two points from 13th positioned Chippa United.
Rise & Shine on the other hand, are in line to finish within a lucrative top-eight position this season, sitting in sixth with 39 points from 29 matches.
Polokwane City recorded a 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows last time out, a result that followed another frustrating 0-0 stalemate with Richards Bay on 6 May.
However, their recent form has not made for a good reading as they enter their final league game on a run of two draws, two losses and one victory in their previous handful of Betway Premiership ties.
Speaking after Gallants’ draw with Richards Bay, Marumo interim coach Trevor Mthiyane lamented his side’s battle in the relegation positions and that the club intends on fighting until the very end.
“At the moment it is very difficult for every team at the bottom,” Mthiyane said.
“We got a point today [against Richards Bay] and we have to appreciate what we get, and we’ll keep on fighting until we get the result.”
