With the Betway Premiership marking its return this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be at the centre of the attention when they go blow-for-blow at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates will head into their next game sitting in second position on the table, one point behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns having played one game less.

Still unbeaten during the 2026/27 campaign, the Buccaneers took home seven wins in eight games so far, including one draw that saw them record 22 points for the season.

The Buccaneers are currently on a five-match winning streak in the Betway Premiership and last saw out a 3-0 win against TS Galaxy at home during matchday eight.

Amakhosi will turn to the game in an opportunity to turn their fortunes around as they sit in fifth-place after securing 14 points from eight ties.

Despite their unbeaten status, Chiefs battled to produce positive results recently and will go into their next league assignment on the back of three straight draws, while they recorded five stalemates for the campaign in total.

The Glamour Boys most recent win came on 6 September where they came out on top in a 3-2 win against Siwelele in a home fixture

Speaking ahead of the Derby, Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou urged his side to play with pride in what will be one of the biggest fixtures of the season and that he expects his players to be all in for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign.

“But for me, what is important is the behaviour. The behaviour, the values are the foundation of all projects,” Ouaddou said.

“If we don’t have values, pride is very important. Respect. Respect the badge. Respect the shirt. Respect the club. Huge club in Africa.

“If we don’t have this pride, how can you compete at a high level?”
