2026/27 Betway Premiership
- Matchday 8
- 13-18 October
The Betway Premiership’s weekend action will see the conclusion of Matchday 8, with key points on offer – particularly for those teams struggling near the bottom of the log.
Marumo Gallants, Siwelele FC and Richards Bay are the three teams which have yet to register a win this season and sit at in the bottom trio of positions.
With Bay in midweek action against Mamelodi Sundowns, attention on the weekend will focus on Gallants’ trip to face Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening, and Siwelele’s home clash against Polokwane City at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
The winless pair both have coaches looking to find their feet after being appointed in September: Gallants’ Ronnie Kanalelo was unimpressed by his side’s efforts against Orlando Pirates in a 0-2 defeat before the international break, while Siwelele have retained Godfrey Mosoetsa as interim coach after parting with Lehlohonolo Seema last month, as they continue their search for a permanent replacement.
“It was all about not giving effort. I think that the willingness was not there to help the team,” said Kanalelo, who will expect an improved performance away to Babina Noko.
The weekend also boasts a KwaZulu-Natal derby, as Golden Arrows and Milford FC clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Both teams have enjoyed solid starts to the season, and the latter’s is particularly impressive given their status as top-flight rookies. However, the Stallions have been hit by the blow of seeing Bulelani Sigomoshe move to Orlando Pirates.
“We always knew Ace was going to go; he had a great season last season, so it was just a matter of time,” reflected coach Dr Xanti Pupuma.
Saturday will also feature Chippa United hosting Kruger United at the Buffalo City Stadium. Both teams have managed just one win so far this season, though Chippa have the momentum of claiming their three-pointer away to TS Galaxy just before the international break.
Coach Brandon Truter will hope the Chilli Boys can keep up that form – and even improve in their attacking efforts: “We can actually rotate the ball and create chances, but we need a bit of composure and good decision-making in the last third, and that is definitely something we will be working on this week.”
