Reigning champions Orlando Pirates and Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs both kicked off the new Betway Premiership season with convincing victories over newly-promoted sides in the first Matchday of the 2026-27 season.
Pirates, who dethroned Mamelodi Sundowns last term, produced a controlled 2-0 home win against Milford FC thanks to goals from Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi.
Chiefs, meanwhile, beat Kruger United 3-1 away, with super-sub Wandile Duba scoring a brace after Khethukuthula Ndlovu had cancelled out Flavio Da Silva opening the scoring.
Both Soweto giants therefore sit level on three points at the top of the early table.
Elsewhere AmaZulu FC claimed a narrow 1-0 away victory over Stellenbosch FC through a second-half penalty by Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.
Sekhukhune United edged Durban City 1-0 courtesy of Bright Ndlovu’s first-half goal, and Golden Arrows and Chippa United shared the points in a goalless stalemate.
On Sunday, Polokwane City earned a 2-1 away win at Richards Bay and Siwelele FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with TS Galaxy.
The Betway Premiership will continue with Matchday 2 fixtures next midweek, Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August.
